Biography
Filip Legein studied at the KU Leuven to obtain a MSc in Metallurgy and Materials Engineering in 1990 and an MBA in 1992. He is an entrepreneurial business (development) manager with vast experience in building companies, both as CEO, director of the board and co-owner. He has a strong interest for nanotechnologies and advanced materials. From 2008 to 2018 he was CEO of Europlasma (www.europlasma.be), a worldwide leader in low pressure plasma technology, which he transformed from high tech machine builder to licensing company of nanocoating solutions for end markets such as filtration, technical textiles, medical and electronic devices. Since 2018 he is working with prof. Wim De Malsche and prof. Karine Hellemans to launch and scale up the µFlow Cell. As a Valorization Manager his goal is to valorize the research of the consortium along three routes. Design and develop innovative microfluidic solutions within the core research lines of the consortium. Fabricate and validate microfluidic devices and microreactors, from prototype to small industrial series. Engineer and produce functional microparticles, such as biomaterials for therapeutic or diagnostic procedure, from lab to small industrial scale.
