The HEATCAP project, with Prof. Joeri Denayer as VUB’s project coordinator of the HEATCAP consortium, has launched on February 1st, 2026. HEATCAP targets next-generation CO2 capture technologies for industry.
🎯 Goal
Addressing one of the key barriers for industrial CCUS: high energy demand, while strengthening the competitiveness of Flemish industry.
🔍 What
Development of adsorption-based CO₂ capture systems using low-grade industrial waste heat (<90 °C) as primary energy input while improving energy efficiency, cost and scalability.
💡 How
Through process intensification, advanced materials and scalable prototype development validated under industrially relevant conditions — bridging academic innovation with industrial deployment potential.
🔹 Who
A cross-university research consortium, working closely with an Industrial Advisory Board (IAB) spanning over 20 industry stakeholders. Funded by VLAIO via Catalisti Moonshot program.
🇧🇪 Industry
HEATCAP reinforces Flanders’ ambition to decarbonise industry through industry-driven, high-impact research.
