Description/use:
The laboratory reaction setup for performing hot gas cleaning tests is mainly used for tar elimination derived from biomass gasification gas. This set-up consists of three sections: the gas-mixing zone, the reactor zone and the sampling zone. The gas mixing zone is to prepare the mixture of the different gases and deliver it to the reactor zone. At the moment, the setup produces a gas mixture of N2, CO, H2, CO2, H2O, CH4, H2S and tar simulating components. The flow rates of the gases are controlled by mass flow controllers (MFC) (Bronkhorst Hi-Tec) or added by sublimation in a controlled gas flow. Liquid components are controlled by liquid mass flow controllers (LMFC).
The reactor zone is the heart of the entire setup, and contains a flow through tube reactor with the catalytic system to be studied. The reactor tube is placed in an electrical tubular oven with a temperature programmer.
When the gas exits from the reactor to reach the sampling zone, it can either enter into the gas analysis line or the tar sampling line depending on different measurement requirements. In the gas analysis line, the gas is measured by an on-line gas chromatograph (GC, type: Varian 3400 with a thermal conductivity detector (TCD)) and an on-line quadrupole mass spectrometer (MS, type: Balzers GSD300, mass up to 300, using Quadstar422 software) to determine the relative content of the main gas components (N2, H2, CO, CO2 and CH4) as well as the tar conversion.
